PAUWAY Energy Generator Sets for Uganda Isimba Hydropower Station Construction

In 2015, Pauway Energy focused on the construction power demand of the Isimba Hydropower Station in Uganda, providing 11 units of PWM715 generator sets (specifications: 520KW, 400V, 50HZ) specifically for the power supply during the construction of the hydropower station. The construction power plant steps up the 400V voltage to 10.5KV through a transformer and transmits it to each construction part of the hydropower station. The stable operation of the construction power plant effectively helped the Isimba Hydropower Station project to be completed and put into power generation smoothly. With the successful implementation of this project, Chairman Liu Hao of Pauway Energy, on behalf of the company, was received by Ugandan President Museveni.

Project Background & Contract Award

In 2015, the Isimba Hydropower Station in Uganda entered a key construction stage. During the construction period, various mechanical equipment, temporary facilities and construction processes all required continuous and stable power support, with high requirements for power supply reliability and voltage adaptability. Due to the lack of stable temporary power supply guarantee on site, a professional construction power generation solution was urgently needed. With mature diesel internal combustion engine power generation technology, rich experience in supporting overseas large-scale engineering construction and highly adaptable equipment solutions, Pauway Energy successfully provided 11 units of PWM715 generator sets (520KW, 400V, 50HZ) for the project, fully meeting the power demand for the entire construction process of the hydropower station.

Core Technology & Equipment Configuration

Generator Sets, Boosting System & Core Technology

The project adopts 11 units of PWM715 diesel generator sets with specifications of 520KW, 400V and 50HZ, adapting to the local power supply frequency and construction equipment voltage requirements in Uganda. It has the characteristics of quick start-up, stable operation, strong anti-interference ability and flexible load adaptation, which can continuously provide stable power for hydropower station construction machinery and temporary lighting. The supporting boosting system steps up the 400V voltage output by the generator sets to 10.5KV through a transformer, realizing long-distance and stable power transmission to each construction part and ensuring the power demand of the entire construction area. The unit integrates a simple intelligent monitoring function, which is convenient for on-site personnel to operate, maintain and troubleshoot.

Project Positioning

An exclusive temporary power generation project for the construction period of the Isimba Hydropower Station in Uganda, whose core is to provide stable power supply support for the entire construction process of the hydropower station and does not undertake permanent power supply tasks. The equipment has high and low temperature resistance and dust-proof performance, adapting to the complex construction environment of the hydropower station construction site and local climate conditions, ensuring uninterrupted power supply during the construction period.

Project Challenges & Achievements

Execution Challenges

It overcame the problems such as inconvenient logistics and transportation in Uganda, complex construction site environment and climate adaptability, optimized the unit operation parameters to adapt to the fluctuation of construction load, coordinated local construction standards and power supply specifications, and ensured the timely delivery and stable operation of 11 generator sets and the boosting system, so as to prevent the hydropower station construction progress from being affected by power supply.

Project Achievements

The continuous and stable operation of the construction power plant effectively helped the Isimba Hydropower Station in Uganda to be completed and put into power generation smoothly, providing strong support for local energy infrastructure construction. The successful implementation of this project was highly recognized by the Ugandan government. Chairman Liu Hao of Pauway Energy, on behalf of the company, was received by Ugandan President Museveni, demonstrating Pauway Energy’s strength in the field of overseas engineering supporting and deepening China-Uganda energy cooperation.
